The Curse of the Crimson Saree Part 2

The Enigmatic Stranger

The morning after the party, Mira woke up with a strange mix of excitement and apprehension. The memory of Arjun’s intense gaze and his invitation to dinner lingered in her mind, making it hard to focus on anything else. She lay in bed for a while, staring at the ceiling, replaying their brief encounter in the elevator. There was something about him—something magnetic, almost otherworldly—that she couldn’t quite put into words.

Her phone buzzed on the nightstand, pulling her out of her thoughts. It was a message from Riya.

Riya: So… how did it go last night? Did you talk to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome?

Mira smiled and typed back.

Mira: We talked. He asked me to dinner tonight.

Riya: WHAT?! Mira, that’s huge! Arjun Malhotra is like, the most eligible bachelor in Mumbai. You have to tell me everything!

Mira: There’s nothing to tell yet. It’s just dinner.

Riya: Just dinner, my foot. This is the start of something epic. I can feel it.

Mira chuckled and put her phone down. Riya had always been the more dramatic one, but her enthusiasm was infectious. Still, Mira couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to Arjun than met the eye. She decided to do a little research before their dinner.

She grabbed her laptop and typed his name into the search bar. The results were overwhelming. Arjun Malhotra was the founder and CEO of **Malhotra Tech**, a rapidly growing startup that specialized in artificial intelligence and machine learning. He had been featured in numerous business magazines, hailed as a visionary and a disruptor. There were photos of him at high-profile events, always impeccably dressed, always surrounded by influential people.

But there were also whispers—rumors of ruthless business tactics, of deals gone wrong, of a past that he kept carefully hidden. Mira frowned as she read through the articles. Was this the same man who had looked at her with such intensity last night? The man who had seemed so… genuine?

She closed her laptop and sighed. She was overthinking this. It was just dinner, after all. She would go, see what he was like, and take it from there.

The day passed in a blur of errands and distractions. Mira tried to focus on her work, but her mind kept wandering back to Arjun. By the time evening rolled around, she was a bundle of nerves. She spent an hour getting ready, finally settling on a simple yet elegant black dress. She left her hair loose, the curls cascading down her back, and opted for minimal makeup. She wanted to look polished but not overdone.

Arjun had texted her the address of the restaurant earlier in the day. It was a high-end place in Bandra, one of Mumbai’s most upscale neighborhoods. Mira arrived a few minutes early, her heart pounding as she stepped out of the cab. The restaurant was sleek and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a stunning view of the city skyline.

She spotted Arjun immediately. He was seated at a corner table, his posture relaxed but commanding. He stood up as she approached, a warm smile on his face.

“Mira,” he said, his voice smooth and inviting. “You look stunning.”

“Thank you,” she replied, feeling a blush creep up her cheeks. “You’re not so bad yourself.”

He chuckled and pulled out her chair for her. As she sat down, she couldn’t help but notice how effortlessly handsome he was. His dark suit fit him perfectly, and his eyes—those piercing, almost hypnotic eyes—seemed to see right through her.

The waiter came over to take their drink orders, and Arjun suggested a bottle of wine. Mira nodded, feeling a little out of her depth. She wasn’t used to this level of luxury, but Arjun seemed completely at ease.

“So,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “Tell me about yourself, Mira. What’s your story?”

Mira hesitated. She wasn’t sure where to begin. “Well, I’m a fashion designer. I have my own label, though it’s still pretty small. I’ve always loved creating things, ever since I was a kid.”

Arjun nodded, his expression thoughtful. “That’s impressive. It takes a lot of courage to follow your passion, especially in a city like Mumbai.”

“What about you?” Mira asked, eager to shift the focus away from herself. “How did you get into tech?”

Arjun’s smile faltered for a moment, but he quickly recovered. “It’s a long story,” he said. “I’ve always been fascinated by technology, by the idea of creating something that can change the world. I started Malhotra Tech a few years ago, and it’s been a wild ride ever since.”

Mira sensed that there was more to the story, but she didn’t press. Instead, she asked him about his work, and he launched into an explanation of his latest project—an AI-powered platform that aimed to revolutionize the way businesses operated. Mira listened intently, fascinated by his passion and vision.

As the evening progressed, the conversation flowed effortlessly. They talked about everything—art, travel, their favorite books and movies. Arjun was surprisingly easy to talk to, and Mira found herself opening up to him in a way she hadn’t expected.

But there were moments—brief, almost imperceptible moments—when she caught a glimpse of something darker beneath his charming exterior. A flicker of pain in his eyes, a tension in his jaw. It was as if he were carrying a weight that he couldn’t—or wouldn’t—share.

---

By the time dessert arrived, Mira was completely captivated. Arjun was unlike anyone she had ever met—intelligent, ambitious, and undeniably magnetic. But there was also a mystery about him, a sense that there was more to him than he was letting on.

As they finished their meal, Arjun leaned forward, his expression serious. “Mira, I have to be honest with you. I don’t usually do this—invite someone to dinner after just meeting them. But there’s something about you… something special. I can’t quite put it into words.”

Mira’s heart skipped a beat. “I feel the same way,” she admitted. “But… I don’t even know you, Arjun. There’s so much I don’t understand.”

He nodded, his gaze never leaving hers. “I know. And I want to change that. I want you to know me, Mira. But it’s not going to be easy. My life… it’s complicated.”

Mira felt a shiver run down her spine. “Complicated how?”

Arjun hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. “Let’s just say I’ve made mistakes. I’ve done things I’m not proud of. But meeting you… it feels like a second chance. Like maybe I can start over.”

Mira didn’t know what to say. There was so much she wanted to ask, so much she wanted to know. But before she could respond, Arjun reached across the table and took her hand.

“Give me a chance, Mira,” he said softly. “Let me show you who I really am.”

Mira looked into his eyes, searching for the truth. And in that moment, she made a decision. She would take a chance on him, on whatever this was. Because despite the mystery, despite the complications, she felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time—hope.

“Okay,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’ll give you a chance.”

Arjun smiled, a genuine, heartfelt smile that made her heart swell. “Thank you,” he said. “You won’t regret it.”

---

As they left the restaurant and stepped out into the cool night air, Mira felt a sense of anticipation, as if she were standing on the edge of something extraordinary. She didn’t know what the future held, but for the first time in a long time, she was excited to find out.

But as they walked to his car, Mira couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to Arjun than he was letting on. And deep down, she knew that this was only the beginning of a journey that would change her life forever.

Episode 04

Episode 03
